Daily positive affirmations have been my saving grace.
As a busy mom navigating what it means to navigate being present and engaged with my toddler while navigating a full-time job in digital marketing, (that demands 50-60+ hour weeks), as well as navigating my yoga and wellness busines, it’s an understatement to say that I get overwhelmed and anxious just thinking about what’s next on my to-do list.
Just look at that last run-on sentence! It personifies ALL of the thoughts that are running through my head at any given moment. Frankly, y’all, this mama is tired. When I start feeling anxiety about how I show up as a mom, I am intentional about tapping into my words to reframe my perspective.
Encouraging yourself with daily affirmations is an act of self-care.
I fell into the trap of thinking that there was a perfect way to tap into work-life balance. I thought that I could and should check every box off my daily to-do list for my family and career because that’s what balance meant. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago, while working over the weekend and shooing my 2-year-old away, so I could work that I took a step back to assess what had just happened in that moment. I am very intentional about recognizing that my son is evolving every day and as his mommy it’s my responsibility and desire to engage, celebrate and uplift him daily.
I made a vow to never let work trump my relationship with him, and in that moment, I realized that I was prioritizing the wrong things and breaking a promise that I made to myself. So, I had a conversation with my leadership at work and explained what happened and we are working through an action plan to ensure that the 60+ hour workweek become the exception and not the rule. I also took a step back and sought out ways to streamline my yoga business so I’m not infringing on opportunities to be present with my LO.
Speaking words of love, empowerment, forgiveness and strength over myself with daily affirmations is a go-to way for me to remind myself that I am an amazing mom.
