Nude lipsticks. For a while these were not the most appealing words to me. Once upon a time, I equated nude lipsticks to shades that were too pink, too peachy, too light, too ashy looking and pretty much not nude at all for my deeper complexion. But, times have changes and I’m no longer struggling to find nude lipsticks that work for me! Long gone are the days of awkward peach and brown shades that only complimented fair complexions.

Brands have really taken notice of the diversity of colors that we all come in and are starting to diversify their product offerings. (It’s about time!). I’ve been shopping around for the perfect nude lipstick for years, and I can finally say that I have discovered some go-to shades that are tried-and-true colors for dark skin tones, so of course I’m sharing the deets with my B&B peeps!

1. AJ Crimson Beauty lipstick in ‘No Shade’

Am I wearing lipstick, or nah? If you’re a brown girl looking for a nude lipstick that will perfectly match your natural lip color and will still give you a flawless finish, look no further than No Shade by AJ Crimson. Y’all know I love me some AJ Crimson, so when I visited his booth at The Makeup Show Orlando earlier this year, I was excited to learn about his new lipstick collection. These lippies are amazing! They slide on very smooth, have a pretty matte finish and have great staying power. Take my word for it, you need this lipstick in your life!

2. NYX Simply Nude Lip Cream in ‘Sable’

This is my everyday nude lipstick color of choice. Besides being easy to travel with (because it’s a lip pen) and looking fab on my chocalate skin, this NYX lip cream is the a necessary, must-have for deeper skin tones. It’s a pinky/mauve shade with a velvety smooth consistency and a very soft satin finish. I have a dark/warm complexion so I like the pinky-peach undertones of this lippie, which is something I almost always consider when shopping for nude lipsticks.

3. L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Privee lipstick in ‘Liya’s Nude- Barely Moka’

This lipstick is from a special collection by L’Oreal Paris that’s all about nudes for different skin tones. I absolutely LOOOOVE this shade! Barely Moka is a warm brown color that applies sheer but not to the point of falling flar and looking blah. It pops! It applies smooth and is gorgeously pigmented and buildable. I like to apply it to the max for a really mocha-esque finish. It goes well with any look, whether you go dramatic on the eyes or keep things subtle. So-soooo pretty for people with darker complexions.

4. MAC Cosmetics lipstick in ‘Stone’

If you follow this blog, it’s no secret that I absolutely adore matte lipstick. So, when MAC Cosmetics released the 2015 Matte Lip Collection there was no question as to whether or not these shades would be added to my makeup collection. It was a given!

Usually, I try to describe the colors of the lipsticks that I recommend in my own terms, but MAC nails the description of Stone as a “muted greyish taupe brown.” I was a bit intimidated by this color at first, but whenever I keep my overall makeup look simple and allow this lippie to be the star of the show, it always stuns! While this isn’t truly a nude lipstick, according to common standards, I highly recommend it for people who love a creamy, matte lipstick with deep, neutral undertones.
