Makeup is pretty much all of the rage right now! Everybody and their Mama’s Mama are creating and trying new beauty hacks and techniques.
I have sensitive skin, so I always make sure I’m careful about finding and using the right products to keep my skin looking and feeling healthy! Your skin is the largest organ of your body and usually your face is the first thing that people see, so make sure you take care of that pretty thing!
Check out these 4 tips to help you choose the right makeup for sensitive skin.
1. Labels matter.
Have you ever spent a little bit more on makeup products thinking you’d get better coverage and overall results by splurging a little, only to be disappointed? It’s definitely happened to me on more than one occasion! Labels totally matter in this situation because you need to know what you’re putting on your skin. For example ingredients like bismuth oxychloride, a mineral used as a cosmetic colorant to give a shiny/glowing effect, could cause some people to have acne breakouts depending on their skin type. Read the label and research what’s in the products you’re planning to use.
2. Try mineral makeup.
Mineral makeup is a great option for acne-prone skin. In the powder form, the loose composition allows the product to feel light on the skin, while still giving great coverage. You can find anything from mineral foundation to eyeshadows and lipsticks these days! There are also mineral liquid foundations available that have lightweight formulas that hydrate your skin. Many of them are hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic. They’re also formulated without silicone, fragrance, water, and oil.
3. Check your foundation
Got oily or combination skin, like me? Try a powder, cream or cream-to-powder foundation! You don’t have to totally exclude liquid foundation from your beauty arsenal because if it has a lightweight texture and ingredients that work well with your skin type, you may not experience irritation or breakouts.
4. Look for the right minerals.
Do your research to see what minerals are good for your skin. Titanium and zinc both have natural anti-irritant properties, which combat inflammation, and a natural SPF 15. Some ingredients you might want to avoid are sodium chloride (salt), soybean oil, and methanol. Figuring out what you should avoid varies depending on your skin type and other factors, so your best bet is to consult a dermatologist for the best results.
