Hey B&B friends!
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I want to modify my personal style in 2016, and I feel like I need to incorporate more tailored pieces into my wardrobe. A few weeks ago, I wore this pinstriped jumpsuit from Akira Chicago with one of my favorite structured pieces,– a sleeveless white blazer that I found at Nordstrom.
I draw a lot of inspiration from men’s fashion with a lot of my everyday looks and for some reason wearing pinstripes draped with an over-sized blazer made me feel like I was channeling the Zoot Suit with a modern twist. The Zoot Suit’s design consists of high-waisted, pegged trouser and long coat that was popular in the 1940s. This style is attributed to Black musicians and were popularized in Chicago.
I always joke that you shouldn’t trust a man in a pinstriped suit. I definitely watched too many old school gangster movies where everybody and their mama wore pinstriped suits. I felt all-kinds-of feminine-yet-fly (with a hint of gangsta status) in this outfit.
Are you into mixing flowy pieces like this jumpsuit and layering them with more structured fashions?
