Remember when I shared how I planned to boss up to fear with you guys?

Well, I was serious. After going through some really emotional and semi-stressful times in my personal and professional life, I decided to stop complaining and start being the change that I wanted to see in my life.

One of the biggest obstacles that I faced daily was with my career. I was in a position that was a first for the company with very limited resources and little to know guidance. Of course having that kind of autonomy is awesome,but it can also be scary and draining of time and energy.

After a couple of years of toughing it out as a one-woman show, our team grew. Awesome, right? I figured more people meant more ideas, more help and more opportunities for growth, so I was excited. Well, let’s just say it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. I went from feeling over-utilized and ill-equipped (despite making great strides for the business) to what felt like unappreciated and unrecognized.

I got to the point of actively looking for a new job. Even though I enjoyed what I was doing and I absolutely LOVE working in the beauty industry, I was considering parting with it.

Eventually I came to a crossroad of being miserable and perpetuating those feelings or bossing up by continuing to practice self-awareness, educating myself to really become an expert in my professional niche, networking and making my voice heard by creating and executing creative campaigns that drove business results.

I decided to channel my negative energy into positive energy by coming up with campaigns that allowed me to thrive in my career and it gave me something to look forward to at work. I started networking with new business partners, pitched innovative campaigns, connected with people in different parts of the organization to see how I could collaborate with them and created my very own network of advocates and friends.

Fast-forward to two months later, and I got a promotion and a raise! (Won’t He do it?!)

I still have lofty goals for my professional career and I’m nowhere near where I want to be (A girl’s gotta dream), but I’m definitely happy with the progress I’ve made. Cheers to continuing in this self-awareness and #GirlBoss journey, B&B friends. We’ve got this!
