Last Friday my BF/photographer and I hopped on the road and headed to Orlando for Grits & Biscuits. If you’ve never heard of this my initial reaction is: “Where have you been?” but since this is the first time Grits & Biscuits made its way to Orlando, I’ll let it slide.
Grits& Biscuits is an event / huge party that pays homage to dirty south music that was started by the group E.Z.Mo Breezy. It originated in Brooklyn, NYC and peopel from all over wouold attend. They’ve taken the show on the road and are killing it with a multiple-city tour giving everybody a dose of down south fun.
The event took place at Venue 578 in Downtown Orlando and I had a blast. Miller Lite was gracious enough to sponsor the event and they paid for everyone’s entry. This wasn’t just a free party, it paid homage to southern Hip Hop music and culture and the DJ kept the party going all night long with a sickening Dirty South mix.
The vibe was fun and I felt like I was in the presence of a bunch of old college friends. One of the highlights of the night was when the DJ played “Swag Surfin'” by Fast Life Yungstaz and the whole crowd moved in unison.
Besides, having a blast, the only advice that I have for this event is prepare to break a sweat and leave your heels at home! (Womp, womp!) I wore heels and I don’t regret looking cute, but this is the kind of party that’s all about having a fun, safe turn-up so pull out your dancing shoes and get loose. I’ll be wearing more comfy shoes the next time around.
Overall, I’d have to say Grits & Biscuits was EVERYTHING! It was totally worth the drive from Tampa to Orlando. There are more upcoming shows, so you can have your own Grits & Biscuits turn-up. Check them out below:
