I am naturally the kind of person who rises to the occasion when it comes to personal and professional growth. The ambitious, go-getter in me rarely turns down an opportunity that can help get me closer to my dreams. However, having this “go-go-go” mentality has often put me in a headspace of feeling burnout, stress, and anxiety.
In addition to running my wellness business, I am a Diversity & Inclusion lead at one of the largest beauty companies in the world. And, of course, wife and mommy duties will always be my top priority.
I’ve grown so accustomed to long days and nights, that I find myself frustrated and fatigued more than I would like to admit. Recently, I turned to a trusted mentor for advice and she encouraged me to proactively reflect, assess and write down what I am willing to allow into my life. To be more specific, all aspects of my life whether it be personal, professional, present, or future.
One super-useful exercise that she shared was asking yourself the question, “What am I available for?” and writing it down.
Don’t shy away from getting very vulnerable with this list. I am working to create a life that feels purpose-driven and led by God’s plan for me. Because of this, I use specific language to outline what I’m available for. Be specific!
Here’s an excerpt from my journal entry:
- I am available for joy.
- I am available for times of rest and revival as a working mom and wife.
- I am available for heaven-sent business and personal relationships.
- I am available for pressing forward, doing my best and working diligently… even when I’m scared.
This is a much-needed act of self-care that will help you proactively establish boundaries and a vision for yourself.
