Why You Need A Morning Routine For Your Well-Being

Transparency moment: My lack of creating a morning routine has started taking its toll on my mental and physical health. The snooze button has become my best friend and sleeping in has become too much of a norm for my. Of course this leads to me frantically rushing to get myself and my family taken care, and it feels pretty crummy. I want to be my best self for myself so I can show up and ne the best person for my family.

That’s why I’ve committed to creating a morning routine. I know, I know you’re probably thinking “Girl, you’re late to the game!” I’m no stranger to a morning routine, but it got a bit warped when I discovered that I’d be working from home for the remainder of the year.

Studies show that creating a morning routine positively impacts health and wellness.

  • It decreases stress and anxiety by giving you control over how you start your day.
  • Having a plan of action and sticking to it increases your productivity.
  • It’s the ultimate act of self-care to start your day taking care of yourself.

I need all of this!!

I want this to be an intentional act, so I sat down and crafted what my ideal morning would look like. I’m sharing it here to keep myself accountable (and, of course, to share with you all)!

Here’s a quick overview of what my morning routine will entail:

  • 6am – 6:15 am – Skin care routine + brush teeth
  • 6:15am – 6:45am – Bible devotional, meditation, prayer and journaling
  • 6:45am – 7:15am – Yoga
  • 7:15am – 7:45am – Breakfast with the fam
  • 7:45am – 8:15 – Get dressed + Listen to inspirational music or podcast
  • 8:15am – 8:45am – Daycare drop-off
  • 8:45am – 9am – Tea Meditation
  • 9am -5pm – Work

*Note: My fiancé and I have our own routine where he gets TJ dressed for school every morning, so that is not a part of my 30 minute window of getting dressed for the day.

I’m giving myself grace to test and learn what works best for me, so I will be flexible with adjusting times as needed. My goal is to create a morning routine that will last me through this period of working from home.

Do you have a morning routine? What does it look like?
