15 Self-Care Journal Prompts

Journaling is one of my favorite forms of self-care, in fact it has played an essential part of my wellbeing since childhood. There’s something so therapeutic about being able to spill my heart onto the pages of my journal. Whether I’m writing a prayer or just venting, it’s absolutely therapeutic.

According to this New York Times Article: “Scientific studies have shown it to be essentially a panacea for modern life. There are the obvious benefits, like a boost in mindfulness, memory and communication skills. But studies have also found that writing in a journal can lead to better sleep, a stronger immune system, more self-confidence and a higher I.Q.”

I’m all for sharing ways to love on yourself, and that’s why I put together this list of 15 Self-Care Journal prompts.

  9. Do a body scan (assess how your body feels from head-to-toe) and write down what you discover
  10. Do 5 rounds of deep belly breathing: Inhale through the nose hold for 4 seconds and exhale out the mouth hold for 4 seconds. Write down how you feel after
  11. Read your favorite scripture or quote and summarize its meaning
  12. Today I learned…here’s how it helped me grow…
  13. 5 things that I love about myself are…
  14. 3 things that I look forward to accomplishing are… and here‘s how I’ll do it…
  15. Sit in silence for at least 3 minutes and write down any thoughts or feelings that arise

You can use these self-care journal prompts daily or anytime you feel like you need a new topic to explore.
