Remember that scene from the first Sexy & the City movie where the ladies discuss “coloring” and Samantha goes on and on about how she has an insatiable appetite for coloring? Well, I feel the same way about matte lipstick. I.ABSOLUTELY.LOVE.IT.

When I heard that Kryolan Professional Make-up launched a new Lipstick Matt line, I knew I had to try it! Luckily I received some amazing free samples of these gorgeous new lippies to review.

This was my first time wearing any makeup from Kryolan. I had seen their work during Backstage Beauty reporting for New York Fashion Week, but that was the extent of my exposure to this brand. The first thing that caught my eye about this new lipstick collection was the shiny blue tube, which is different than the silver tube their lipsticks usually come in. Once I got the chance to swatch and wear Kryolan Lipstick Matt, I knew I would become a fan of this company.

What I liked most about the lipsticks was their highly-pigmented colors and velvety-smooth finish. They didn’t dry out my lips and the staying power was great. I only had to touch up my lips a couple of times throughout the day after eating. I recommend applying a lipstick base because some of the colors did stain my lips, but with a little exfoliation it came right off.

Kryolan Lipstick Matt is available in 18 shades. I played around with 4 colors from the collection. Here are my initial thoughts on the hues:

  • Freyja– Soft and pretty. This is a frosty mauve shade that I adore. I was skeptical about this lippie at first because I shy away from lighter pinks but it applied like a dream and looked great.
  • Nike– Hot pink, pigmented for the gawds and oh-so-pretty. I love this color! Need I say more?
  • Aurora– I’m a sucker for a pretty red lip and this lipstick didn’t disappoint. I have warm/dark skin, so I tend to lean toward red lipsticks with blue undertones, but when I swiped this matte shade on my lips I instantly fell in love. It’s bright and will definitely get you noticed, but in a good way. Some people complain that matte lipsticks are drying or don’t go on smoothly. This shade swiped on pretty smoothly, but it does have a retro-matte look and feel so it could be perceived as “dry” to some but it just depends on the person. I thought it applied comfortably and it felt great on my lips. (I’m wearing it in the lead photo without any lip liner.)
  • EOS– Every girl needs a pretty orange hue in their lipstick stash and I’m a fan of this color. It did take some building up for me to get the vibrant color that I desired, but it was worth it. I love the subtlety of the orange and I think making it a little sheer is smart because it lends more room for experimenting.

Kryolan Lipstick Matt retails for for $20. If you want to get your hands on this lipstick visit us.kryolan.com or call 1-800-KRYOLAN (1-800-579-6526) for store info.

What are your thoughts on this new lipstick line? Will you be adding  Kryolan Lipstick Matt to your lippie collection?
