Mommy life, working 40+ hours per week along with corporate travel trips and trying to ensure I have family time and take time to exercise and create fresh content for the blog and social media has kept me quite busy!

Change Your Words, Change Your Life

Sometimes this vicious cycle of busy-ness can take its toll. As someone who is always sharing the importance of positive self-talk and entertaining good vibes only, I found myself doing a lot of complaining and entertaining conversations that centered around gossip and negativity over the past few weeks.

Consistently venting about everything that is going “wrong” is a recipe for becoming a toxic person. I started feeling physically tired and noticed that I was more irritable and less rational when I went through this period of complaining and listening to others complain. I’ve always been the kind of person who has placed more value on being the change that I want to see and making moves to enforce positive changes in my life, so this was completely out of character for me.

This past Sunday, while dreading my busy week of work ahead, I had an a-ha moment where I realized I was investing so much negativity into the what-ifs of the week ahead when I could’ve channeled that energy toward changing the trajectory of how I wanted my week to go through positive planning and counting my blessings. Dreading the week ahead definitely didn’t make me feel better—in fact, it just made me want to complain more! I immediately made a decision to cease-and-desist from the drama!

On Monday, I walked into the office, gave my usual greetings but I was very intentional about not complaining and not partaking conversations that could lead complaining. Not only was my day more productive, but I felt better knowing that I wasn’t wrapping myself up in parasitic behavior. I’ve decided to keep the momentum going by consciously keeping things positive!

I’m interested to know if you’ve ever experienced anything like this in your professional or personal life and how you dealt with it!

How do you avoid negative chatter in your day-to-day life?
